How does the auction work?

Vehicles are forfeited for a wide variety of reasons, from drunk driving and drug sales, to abandoned property and fleeing a police officer. The vehicles also display a wide range of maintenance and repair (or disrepair, as the case may be). The Police Department does not have a mechanic on duty, nor do we claim to know any vehicle's maintenance status. For that reason, you are strongly encouraged to view the vehicle in person or arrange for someone to look at the vehicle for you during viewing hours. From the time it comes into our possession, it gets towed or moved by flatbed. We don't drive the vehicles. As such, we can't attest to their operability.

Minnesota residents must handle license and registration transfer, as well as vehicle insurance coverage, prior to the vehicle being driven.

As for the title, when we seize a vehicle a rather lengthy paper chase begins. The end result of that paper chase is that the Police Department/City of Princeton becomes the legal owner of the vehicle and our name is on the title. We do not begin an auction until we have that title in our possession. At the end of the auction, the title is transferred from us to you. You will leave our office with the vehicle and the title in hand.

Please Note:

  • Unless otherwise stated, the condition of the vehicles is unknown.
  • The vehicles are being offered "AS-IS, WHERE-IS" with no warranty or other guarantee as to its condition or fitness for use. As mentioned above, we don't drive the vehicles and can't attest to their operability.
  • Vehicles are unable to be driven during viewing as they are uninsured.
  • All bids must be delivered to the Princeton Police Department by 3:00 pm Friday October 15th.   Mailed bids must be post marked before due date.
  • No personal checks accepted. Cash or certified check only. Checks payable to the City of Princeton.
  • None of our vehicles come with license plates. Purchaser should check with local license bureau for licensing requirements.
  • Vehicles listed are offered on a sealed bid basis.
  • All vehicles must be legally towed or driven off lot with current proof of insurance for vehicle.
  • All transactions and removal of vehicles must be completed by October 29, 2010.
